Gabriel San Román

Gabriel San Román is an award-winning journalist and author.
He began his journey in alternative media as a morning radio show producer at KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles where he also voiced the “Subversive Historian” radio series.
San Román served next as a staff writer, columnist and podcast producer at the irreverent OC Weekly. His historical journalism won several awards before the newspaper shuttered in 2019.
Since then, San Román has worked as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times where he investigated political corruption. In 2026, CCNMA: Latino Journalists of California honored him with a Ruben Salazar award.
He is the author of two books, including his latest "Days of Dissent: Revolts, Strikes and Rebel Histories."
״Days of Dissent offers us a guide for the days when our faith in justice wobbles--to remind us that we have always fought our oppressors, and we have never given up.״
- Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, author of The Disordered Cosmos
Days of Dissent
Arriving at a time when history from below faces relentless attacks from above, “Days of Dissent: Revolts, Strikes, and Rebel Histories” recounts the stories that have reshaped the United States and the world.
Told in a literary “this day in history” format, San Román’s calendrical collection of vignettes spans centuries and pays homage to past social justice struggles. From the labor movement to Black power, from Indigenous resistance to feminist waves, Days of Dissent shines a light on revolts, no matter how big or small, and the injustices that spurred them.
